Briefing and Capitol Visits

On Friday
morning we will visit our elected leaders in the Texas Capitol to discuss
the many issues affecting our practice and our patients. If you
have not
been on Texas Capitol visits before, or if you want a “refresher course”,
we will have a primer session Friday morning in the Four Seasons Ballroom
A&B before heading up to the Texas Capitol. Everyone in a leadership role
in Texas orthopaedics will be there so can be assured that you will be
paired up with some seasoned colleagues.

Communication Course

The Communication Skills Course will be taught
by Dr. Howard Epps of Houston. The AAOS Communication Skills Course was
developed in conjunction with the Bayer Institute of Healthcare and is a
high quality, very useful course for orthopaedic surgeons. It is
guaranteed to raise the quality of clinician/patient relationships.
Meeting attendees will receive 4.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits and TMLT
policy holders will receive 3% premium discount.

The Workers’ Compensation Update Seminar will be moderated by Dr. David
Teuscher, TOA President. The agenda includes Workers’ Comp Legislative
Update – Plugging the Holes, Division of Workers’ Comp Overview, Injured
Workers’ Perspective WC Networks – Will They Perform As Intended? and
Disability Management.

This presentation will specifically concentrate on war injuries and their
current treatment by our Texas military colleagues. We plan to invite
legislators and their staff to this social and informational event.

We are pleased to announce our 2007 Guest Speaker for the TOA
Annual Meeting will be Bernard F. Morrey, MD, Chairman of
Orthopaedic Surgery, Mayo Clinic. Dr. Morrey has served as
president of many orthopaedic societies such as AAOS, AOA, and
ASES. He is a well known author of orthopaedic medical
reference books and articles. An hour long presentation
entitled "Total
Elbow Replacement: It Is |
Not Rocket Science" will be delivered
by Dr. Morrey on Saturday afternoon, May 12th.
Quiz Bowl
Will UTMB defended
its title at the 5th Annual Resident Quiz Bowl?
The Annual
Resident Quiz Bowl will feature teams of two
residents from each of Texas’ orthopaedic training programs competing for
the highly coveted traveling trophy, title, and bragging rights. Dr. Mark
Brinker’s orthopaedic brain-teasers challenge the contestants and delight
orthopaedists and spouses alike.
