VOTE “YES” on SB 1095 and SB 1313

SB 1095 by Sen. Carlos Uresti (D-San Antonio) is a bill to conduct a study regarding the need for increased GME programs based on our State’s population growth and health care workforce trends. Texas has a shortage of physicians and graduate medical education slots to train physicians.  The shortage of GME slots guarantees that Texas medical students will continue to leave the state upon graduation.  SB 1095 is a major step towards remedying the shortage of physicians.

SB 1313 also by Sen. Carlos Uresti (D-San Antonio) creates a “Report Card” for all health profession boards. Currently, there are no uniform reporting requirements for our State’s health profession boards, which prevents the legislature from assessing and comparing the boards’ licensing and disciplinary actions.

Senate bills 1095 and 1313 will be heard in the House Public Health Committee on Wednesday May 16, 2007.

Contact all members of the House Public Health Committee, and ask them to VOTE FOR SB 1095 and SB 1313.
