Dr.
Teuscher. "I am honored and
humbled to be in this role and look forward to the challenges it may
bring."
The
BOC represents the grassroots of the orthopaedic profession and explores
health policy, education, research, advocacy and communications
functions within the Academy. Its 100 plus members are elected by state
orthopaedic societies. This group serves as an advisory body to the
AAOS Board of Directors and as a resource to Academy committees. In
addition, the BOC manages Academy's relations with the state orthopaedic
societies.
After
completing an undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign, Dr. Teuscher received his medical degree from the
University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio. He completed his
internship and residency in orthopaedics at the Brooke Army Medical
Center and held academic appointments with the University of Oklahoma
and Baylor University.
Dr.
Teuscher was deployed to the 144th Evacuation Hospital in
northern Saudi Arabia in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert
Storm. He completed thirteen years of military service and was the
chief of surgery at Reynolds Army Community Hospital, where he received
numerous military awards, commendations and decorations. Currently, Dr.
Teuscher is in private practice at the Beaumont Bone and Joint Institute
in Southeast Texas and specializes in sports medicine.
An
active member of the American Orthopaedic Association, the American
Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Texas Medical Association
and Texas Orthopaedic Association (TOA), Dr. Teuscher recently served as
the past president of the Jefferson County Medical Society and the TOA.
He was one of the founding Board members of Texans Allied for Patient
Access, the statewide coalition working for medical liability reform in
Texas.
"This
position will allow me to work with the BOC members to foster leadership
and communication, increasing this Board's future effectiveness with the
Academy, patients, policy makers and the public," added Teuscher.
Over
the past ten years, Dr. Teuscher has been actively involved in public
policy debates in Austin and Washington D.C. on issues of healthcare
financing, expert witness testimony, property taxes and workers
compensation.
When
not in the operating room or seeing patients, Dr. Teuscher enjoys family
time at Lake Sam Rayburn and outdoor sports.
