CME Accreditation
On February 7, 2007, the
Texas Medical Association Committee on Continuing Education granted Texas
Orthopaedic Association provisional accreditation for 4 years. An
application or self study report and reresurvey
will be due prior to the expiration of TOA’s accreditation on February 4,
2011.
CME Mission Statement
Purpose
The purpose of the Texas
Orthopaedic Association (TOA) CME Program is to provide quality continuing
medical education that encourages scientific and educational endeavors
within the membership which will
promote and advance the science and art of orthopaedic surgery; maintain
high professional, ethical, and moral
standards in the practice of orthopaedic surgery in the State of
Texas, and foster cooperation among orthopaedic surgeons in Texas.
Content
The content of the activities
sponsored by the TOA CME Program include, but are not limited to,
-
Increasing
knowledge in the area of musculoskeletal health—both preventative and
maintenance
-
Disseminating
updates in technical developments and research to musculoskeletal health
care providers
-
Fostering
the most cost efficient, patient centered, professional treatment of
musculoskeletal disease and injuries available
-
Meeting or exceeding the
Essential Areas and Policies of the guidelines of the Texas Medical
Association intrastate CME accreditation program.
Target Audience
The target audience of the TOA CME
Program includes orthopaedic surgeons as well as primary care physicians,
physician assistants, nurse practitioners, physical therapists, and other
health care professionals whose
practices are concerned with orthopaedic medicine.
Types of Activities Provided
The types of activities the TOA CME
Program provides are

Annual
and interim educational meetings which include hands on workshops,
question & answer sessions, and panel discussions;

Outreach
activities, sometimes in series format, in various locations around the
state, and
-
Enduring materials such as
print, video, and Internet CME.
Expected Results of the
Program
As a result of these educational
activities, the TOA intends to foster the continuing professional
development of orthopaedic surgeons. The offerings are intended to enhance
physician and other health care
professionals’ training to affect professional knowledge with the
immediate goal of improving patient
care. The TOA is committed to reassessing the impact of the CME Program on
an ongoing basis through qualitative and
quantitative methods to ensure that this goal is being met.
